FONDUE FOR YOU OR FONDUE FOR TWO

Nothing says, “Hello Winter!” like gooey melted cheese does. Fondue could just be the greatest invention in the universe – thank you to the Swiss for crafting this delectably dangerous dream food. Perfect for nights in with family, friends or just your other half, there really is nothing better than huddling around a pot of melted cheese to keep you warm.

Fondue is traditionally made with a rich cheese such as Gruyere and mixed with white wine (we didn't lie when we called it dangerous). In the 17th century cheeses such as Gruyere were an expensive export that many people could not afford and it wasn’t until the 1930’s that Fondue was popularised as cheese consumption grew. Even though it took the Swiss a few years to come around to the idea, I’m sure I’ll be able to persuade you a but quicker.

HOW DO WE DO IT

Your Favourite Bread – you really can’t go past baguette but any artisanal rustic loaf works really well such as sourdough. You can even try something a bit more complex like a walnut and cranberry loaf.

Meat Lover – some traditional favourites are speck, saucisson, prosciutto, leg and parma ham. Meatballs, Swiss or otherwise are also a great addition for something a little more adventurous, and its hard to go past slices of medium-rare steak.

Veg For Days – one word, POTATOES! Boiled or baked potatoes and cheese holy moly, there is a heaven on earth! Aside from that obvious match created by the gods, steamed cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, roasted fennel spears, sautéed mushrooms, steamed or roasted Brussel sprouts are all delicious, but really the options are endless.

A Burst of Flavour – for something to take your Fondue to the next level, try sweet confit garlic, gherkins, fresh fruit like pears or apple and even peppers can make a great addition.

TOPS TIPS FOR AN EXTRA TASTY FONDUE

  • Heat and melt cheese slowly to make sure it doesn't burn.
  • Season meat and vegetables while they are cooking to get maximum flavour. This can be anything from salt and pepper to using garlic or marinading in your favourite spice and herb combo.

The best part about Fondue really is the fact that its up to you!

Aside from the traditional favourites, you can choose whatever you want to dip into the cheesy goodness. Emile & Solange has a huge range of ingredients to dip as well as Fondue cheeses kit!
